Just in time for Christmas shopping, Oakville’s long period of downtown road closures is over. Construction began last April of 2019 and lasted over 18 months, opening November 2020 at a cost of $20 million.
Initially started as a waterworks upgrade, the project extended to a full beautification project for the downtown Oakville residents and business owners. While the process was a long a painful one, the result is a long-lasting future focused infastructure that includes public wifi, electric vehicle charging stations, wide sidewalks and bicycle-friendly streets. The area is also enhanced with the planting of 26 new trees, new street lights and attractive paving stones.
While some work still remains to be completed on Trafalgar, and some smaller surrounding roads, the main work is complete on the main downtown section of Lakeshore Rd. Official opening ceremony occurred the week of November 16th, 2020.
